ABS Brakes Problems
ABS makes a noise that sounds like rusty hinge, but it is not.
If the ABS function is engaging or too sensitive then it does make a clunking noise when the ABS actuator pumps to avoid wheel lock. You are saying that the brakes make this noise when you jump on the brakes. This is perfectly normal. ABS system is located in the front of the car and you will hear it when it operates. If you stating that the system seems too sensitive then my recommendation is to have the rear brakes checked. The drum brakes on the rear of the vehicle are NOT self adjusting and must be adjusted about every 30,000 miles. The brakes tend to get hot and be too sensitive if the brakes are to tight, this can cause some noises too. If the brakes are to loose it will cause a soft brake pedal that will require more force on the pedal to stop the van and can lead to abnormal ABS operation as well as brake shoe shift/noise. Perfect brake adjustment is essential on your car.
Note that if the ABS system detects a malfunction by running a check at every start up and then twice a second once moving. The ABS indicator will illuminate on the dash and stay on.
